Introductie

Do you want to use data to help build a smarter, more sustainable, and more efficient Port of Rotterdam?
As an Analytics Engineer within Digital Port Performance, you play a key role in transforming complex data into clear insights that strengthen the operations, strategy, and customer experience of Europe’s largest port. You’ll work in an innovative, international team that is shaping the future of the port with digital solutions and AIdriven insights.

What will you do?

We’re looking for an Analytics Engineer who can turn complex data into clear insights that drive business decisions. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong technical skills, intrinsic curiosity and ability to communicate effectively across business and operational teams. You’ll work closely with stakeholders to understand their needs, translate them into analytical solutions, and deliver highquality dashboards and reports. While Power BI and Databricks are the main BI platforms now, we would like to envision a future of dynamic, customized and just-in-time insights powered by AI. Therefore, for this position, is essential to be actively looking for innovation and upskill in the AI field.
You’ll be part of a multifunctional analytics team, comprising data scientists, data stewards, data translators and analytics specialists. Beyond your direct team, you’ll be part of data communities and working groups, so you can learn and work together with likeminded colleagues from different departments and IT. As part of the Digital Port Performance team, you’ll also have close interaction with program managers, business managers and customers of the Port of Rotterdam.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand challenges, define analytical requirements, and translate results into compelling stories and actionable insights..
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize dashboards, data models, and reports in PowerBI or Databricks. Use of SQL and Python to independently execute back-end tasks.
  • Apply UX principles to the agile development of data products that meet user needs and drive business value.
  • Explore and propose new ways to build and report insights by leveraging AI tools such as Copilot, Databricks Genie, etc, always with care for data privacy and security.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability across reports and dashboards in production in collaboration with data engineers, data scientists, IT teams, and subjectmatter experts.
  • Support the organization in building a datadriven culture by coaching colleagues, promoting best practices and engaging users to increase adoption and analytical maturity.
What do we offer you?

This position is classified in FSK

In case of an internal transition, article 3.1 of the CAO applies.

Department Information

Our commercial department is responsible for the customers of the Port of Rotterdam.
As an Analytics Engineer, you will be part of the Digital Port Performance team. This team consists of 24 enthusiastic colleagues from diverse nationalities and backgrounds. Our goal is to utilize digital tools to achieve the port's strategy and improve its performance. We use data and analytics to identify bottlenecks and work with customers and partners to find solutions. Although we generally do not build these solutions ourselves, we coordinate and oversee their development. We collaborate with an ecosystem of start-ups, scale-ups, suppliers, and knowledge institutes.
Since digitalization is a key strategic theme, the team reports directly to our CEO. You will work closely with colleagues from the commercial department, asset management, environmental management, strategy, marketing and communications, and our subsidiary Portbase (Port Community System). Together, we strengthen the port's competitive position and reduce emissions.
You will be part of a sub-team within Customer Digital that focuses on delivering data analytics and insights that help improve sustainability, resilience and efficiency of logistics and industrial activities in the port area. Our aim is to provide a seamless experience to the more than 3,000 B2B companies operating in the Port of Rotterdam.

What do we ask of you?
  • A completed bachelor’s or master’s degree, preferably in a STEM field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in business intelligence, including developing dashboards and reports, with strong Power BI skills (DAX, data modeling, visualization).
  • Strong data translation skills: able to bridge technical and business teams and deliver endtoend data products.
  • Experience with large datasets and relational databases, including SQL or similar query languages.
  • Affinity with modern data & AI tools (e.g., Python, dbt, GitHub, Databricks, AIdriven analytics), plus interest in UX, agile ways of working, or sectors like logistics, industry, energy or maritime.

Competencies we find important for success in this role:
Problem-solving skills: You are analytically strong and can quickly get to the heart of a problem. You critically consider the possible alternatives and choose the most appropriate solution. In addition, you recognise good ideas and integrate them into your own approach.
Communicating effectively: You can explain complex issues in a comprehensible way. You ask questions to better understand their wishes and make sure you can correctly summarise their message.
Customer Orientation: You actively listen to customers' needs and take appropriate actions to meet their expectations, prioritizing stakeholder management. You make sure these needs are met, even if it means communicating difficult messages.
Curiosity and flexibility: You are interested in learning and understanding how things work. You are open and adaptable to new working methods and changes in tasks. You are willing to change your mind or opinion based on new insights.
